A friend challenged me to make a needle felted roadrunner, and here he is!
This was my first try getting a bird to balance on three points (legs and tail), and he stays up fairly well, though I’d like to be able to make his feet and nails (which are made from wire) a little smaller, and his beak just as long but not quite so wide. I probably should have started with a grey core for the beak, because I had to add bulk covering over the white.
I hadn’t noticed before that roadrunners are one of those birds with a dinosaur stride; it makes me want to try making one of those feathered dinosaurs they’ve been finding.
This was also my first animal that included some wet felting to get the feet and tail started.
