Today we had a presentation by someone from the police academy about the course we’re supposed to be teaching. I’ve been assigned to teach two twelve week courses in introductory English, meeting three times a week for two hours at a time. It seems to be more or less on the level of what one might find in a college’s continuing education language 101 course. The idea is that if the police officers should be approached for help by a foreigner they might be able to figure out what they want and communicate well enough to help them. I kind of lucked out on this one: since I’m in a fairly rural area I only have seventeen total students. They have a fairly well planned out curriculum with weekly units, textbooks, a workbook, a listening CD, and some other materials, which are distributed to each student.
