In keeping with my advent resolution, I painted another little 9×12 painting this evening. This morning I had my students continue with the same theme from last time, with the Georgia O’Keefe quote: “Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small. We haven’t time, and to see takes time – like to have a friend takes time.” Today was a half day, so they were to take a little bit of time — twenty minutes or so — to try to see and draw some of the flowers from bush outside in as much detail as they could. They were little — perhaps a square inch for an entire cluster. Almost none of them produced a finished drawing, but there were some nice observations of the edges of leaves and the arrangements of petals and berries. This is what I remember of those flowers. It looks somewhat better in person.
