I have an advent resolution to paint a fast 9×12″ painting every day until Christmas or Epiphany, depending on how long I can stand it. I made this resolution because I don’t paint and feel like I ought to. My thoughts for tonight are that after spending all day trying to teach art, I don’t have very much attention or patience left — especially if I’m painting the meal I want to eat — and painting needs attention above everything. Of course it would have helped if I hadn’t eaten half of the tomato before starting — just because I was hungry — making my model rather more complicated. All the same, my painting is mushy; I need to try for more structure next time.
Tonight’s sunset was gorgeous; I kept hoping for red lights coming home from school so that I could sit there and admire it.
